CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

If you're out shopping on Black Friday, you will likely see extra police helping to provide security.

According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, they aren't there because something is wrong. They're there simply in case someone should need them or something should arise.

Different this year, though, shoppers can follow along on Twitter to see what police are up to.

It's a part of the Cape Girardeau Police Department's tweet along.

An officer will be tweeting from the front seat of the patrol car assigned to the biggest "retail zone" in Cape Girardeau from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In one tweet, police say they responded to a person that was assaulted. No word yet on if that happened while customers were shopping.

If you don't have twitter, you can still follow the police departments actions at this link.

Cape Girardeau Police encourage shoppers to be mindful of their surroundings and treat each other with kindness.
