Hundreds of people lined up out front of Menards in Cape Girardeau for Black Friday deals.

A line of people wrapped around the building before doors opened at 6 a.m.

Shoppers say they are after tools and big bargains.

Karen Chamberlain traveled from Sikeston to get in line.

She says it is tradition.

"My daughter [and I] have [done] this for 34 years together, 33 for her. I was doing it before she was born. It's just a yearly ritual," Chamberlain said.

For Louis Hulshof from Benton, Missouri, he arrived at Menards at 10 Thursday night.

"You get right up front," Hulshof said with excitement. "Black Friday's my holiday! I like it!"

Menards was one of the companies that chose to remain closed on Thanksgiving day.

"... Thanksgiving is a time for togetherness, which should be celebrated with all those we hold dear," Menards managers said in a news release. "We will open out doors bright and early... so you can save big with out 6 hour after Thanksgiving sale."

Academy Sports and Outdoors was another company that chose to remain closed for Thanksgiving.

"We opened at 5 a.m. this morning, which was nice, we all got to enjoy our Thanksgiving holiday," store director, Clint Welker said.

Welker said it was quite the line Black Friday morning.

"The line was wrapped around the corner, like it's been every year, the customers were great, good spirits," he said.
