JOHNSTON CITY, IL (KFVS) -

A four-legged burglar broke in to a Johnston City business early Wednesday morning and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.

A deer busted through a glass window of Back to Normal Construction and was stuck running around inside the business for about 30 minutes.

The business is on Broadway across the street from the MidCountry Bank.

It all started when the animal nearly ran over a man in the middle of the street around 2 a.m.

The deer got spooked by its reflection in a store window, turned around, ran across the street, jumped over a car, and through the plate glass window of the construction business.

Steve Essary owns the business and took video of the deer inside. He says it caused about $2,000 worth of damage.

Video shows police shining flashlights through the building trying to get the deer out.

The deer ran back and forth through the building and eventually jumped back out of the broken window and ran away.
