METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

A K-9 Unit with the Metropolis Police Department is now prepped and ready for duty with new body armor donated by a non-profit charity organization in Massachusetts.

The vest is designed to help protect K-9 Jocobo from bullet and stab wounds, and was provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

It's one of more than 1,600 K-9 vests provided by the organization throughout the nation since 2009. This particular vest sports the embroidered sentiment "In Memory of K-9 Kye, Oklahoma City Police Department."

In order to qualify for a vest from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., dogs must be at least 20 months of age and be actively employed with U.S. law enforcement or other similar agencies.
