This week in music: 1999

(KFVS) -

Let's step into our music time machine and travel back 16 years ago.

The year was 1999 and these were the songs at the top of Billboard Magazine's Hot 100.

At number five was Jessica Simpson with her very first chart hit, "I Wanna Love You Forever."

Checking in at number four was Lou Bega with "Mambo No. 5." You remember the lyrics, "A little bit of Monica in my life, a little bit of Erica by my side."

Marc Anthony was holding down the number three spot with "I Need to Know."

At number two was "Back At One" by Brian McKnight. It was stuck in the runner up spot for eight weeks.

That's because Santana and Rob Thomas had a strong grip on number one with "Smooth" which stayed at the top of the charts for 12 weeks. Billboard ranks it as the number one song of the 1990s and the second biggest single of all time behind only "The Twist" by Chubby Checker.
