CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Teams from Southeast Missouri and the surrounding area came to SEMO on Saturday, Nov. 21 to show off their engineering skills in a robot
competition.

The First Lego League competition featured many teams, which were required to use their robots to complete a themed mission for points.

Students had three months to build their robot, using the LEGO Mindstorm Kits for the competition.

Many students said building these robots has helped prepare them in many ways, especially for a possible future in engineering.

"It actually helps us with our computers and our typing and our mental math and stuff," Jena Adams of Farmington said. "It also helps us know more information than we started."

Students also said working with others helped them prepare for real world scenarios in the workplace.

"It helps us work in a group together," Lauren Hall of Farmington said. "Anytime we're going to work in groups later in life, it teaches you to work together a lot."

Students also pitched an idea to a group of judges for an invention to help with waste production.
