CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

More than 225 people attended "Dunkin' With Dads (and Other Important Men)," held on Thursday, November 19 at Charleston Middle School for students in grades PreK to 8th and their fathers or father figures.

This was a record high attendance for this event, surpassing last year's attendance of 174.

The guest speaker for the event was Coach Alfred Marshall, former coach and teacher at Charleston and a member of the Marshall family who have been long-time contributors to Charleston R-1 athletics.

He spoke about the importance of fatherhood in the lives of our children.

Coach Marshall currently contributes to the Charleston Little League Football program.

This well-attended event also featured activities located throughout the school, including open gym basketball time, board games, a football throwing game, a paper airplane contest, and a novelty photo booth.

After the guest speaker, pizza and refreshments were served in the commons, including lemonade provided by OPAA! Food Services. Door prizes were distributed, including $5 gift cards, Charleston Blue Jay footballs, and school supplies.

The purpose of this event was to promote fatherhood, male role-models, local student sports opportunities, and Charleston R-1 athletics.

The school would like to thank Summer Babb, Officer Brenda Bickford, Lawanda Williams, Mississippi County Savings and Loan, Charleston Cheerleading and Megan Williams, Regions Bank and Camille Peters for donating gift cards for door prizes, and Orange Hat Productions of Charleston.

The event was a product of Hearnes and CMS Title 1 Parent Involvement, organized by Mr. B.J. Babb, Parent Liaison.
