Help soldiers call home for the holidays

A great way to spread some holiday cheer this season! Donate gently-used cell phones so servicemen and women can call home for the holidays.

Cell Phones for Soldiers is an organization asking people to donate their used cell phones to help the more than 200,000 troops serving overseas around the world.

Cell Phones for Soldiers was started in 2004 by a couple of teenagers.

Currently, the charity has provided more than 216 million minutes of free talk time to servicemen and women stationed around the world, through its calling card program called Minutes That Matter.

They take the used phones, sell them and used the money to buy prepaid international calling cards. For every donated phone valued at $5, Cell Phones for Soldiers can provide 2.5 hours of free talk time to service members overseas.

State Representative John Bradley of Marion is partnering with Cell Phones for Soldiers this year. Folks can bring their donations to Bradley's district office located at 1301 Enterprise Way, Suite 40A in Marion.
