Saint Francis Medical Center is offering free Heart Health Screenings for Cape Girardeau County residents aged 60 and older.

Screenings are done the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7- 10 a.m. in the Saint Martha Conference Center (formerly Wellness Conference Room 2), located at 150 South Mount Auburn Road. Use Entrance 8.

There is no need to make an appointment and no physician referral is needed.

The screening will include total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cardiac risk ratio, glucose and blood pressure check. Blood is taken by a finger stick and participants will receive results in 15 minutes. Results from the screening will be sent to the patient’s primary care doctor.

According to St. Francis Medical Center, a 10-12 hour fast is required to received accurate results. Doctors advise that during fasting, drink plenty of plain water and continue taking prescription medication (with water only).

The screenings are provided thanks to funding from the County’s Senior Citizens’ Services Fund Board.
