Cooter man pleads not guilty to shooting wife

COOTER, MO (KFVS) -

A man from Cooter is behind bars, accused of shooting his wife.

Billy Wayne Renfro, 63, was in court on Monday, Nov. 23 for an arraignment.

His bond was reduced and is now set at $150,000.

Renfro pleaded not guilty. His next court appearance will be Dec. 3 at the Pemiscot County Courthouse.

According to Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, a woman called 911 just before 1 Friday morning saying her husband had shot her.

Deputies arrived at the home on Railroad Street a couple of minutes later and found the woman with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Sheriff Greenwell said the victim told the responding deputies that she and her husband had gotten into an argument, and that is when he shot her.

Renfro was arrested at the home.

He faces charges of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and 1st degree assault.

Renfro is being held in the Pemiscot County jail.
