36 lbs. of marijuana found during traffic stop in Lyon Co.

LYON COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Thirty-six pounds of pot off are off the streets after a routine traffic stop in Lyon County, Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police say Trooper T.J. Williams stopped a car on Interstate 24 at about 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 because it had no license plates.

Williams says he noticed several things inside the car that indicated the driver was involved in criminal activity, so he called for assistance.

Trooper Brad Ramsey and his K9 Partner Oscar responded, and Oscar alerted on the vehicle.

The troopers found the 36 pounds of marijuana shrink-wrapped in plastic inside three suitcases inside the car.

KSP identifies the driver as Katkeo Sayavongsa, 59, of Milwaukee,Wisconsin. He is now under arrest and charged with trafficking marijuana greater than five pounds, possession of drug paraphernalia, and having no registration plates on his car.

Investigators say the drugs have a street value of about $80,000.

Sayavongsa is now being held in the Caldwell County Detention Center.
