Jackson County Health Department expands access to services

The Jackson County Health Department says it will remain open five days a week, reversing an earlier decision to reduce the days of service which was to take effect December 1.

While the state budget impasse means the agency still does not have state funding, it has received additional support from the Jackson County Board.

On November 17 the County Board took action on a new fiscal year budget, which included covering 50% of the health department's pension costs, totaling about $127,000.

This additional support helps fill the gap in the health department's budget caused by state funding cuts and rising expenses.

In addition, the Jackson County Health Department is making some changes in the hours of clinical services to offer more convenience and access.

All immunizations, including flu shots, are now available Monday through Friday on a walk-in basis from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

In addition, late clinic has been moved from Thursday to Tuesday which allows immunizations to be offered until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Additionally, WIC clinic hours are also extended until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The Health Department carries most vaccines for both children and adults, including shingles and pneumonia shots.

The health department offers free vaccine for those eligible and accepts most insurance coverage including: Medicaid, Health Link, Health Alliance, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Coventry, and Humana (please bring your insurance card).

Vaccination fees can also be paid by cash, check or debit/credit cards.
