Body of missing Lesterville, MO man found in Reynolds Co.

John Gutches John Gutches
REYNOLDS COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The body of a Lesterville man who went missing after his truck was swept away in the Black River has been found.

The body of John Gutches, 49, of Lesterville, was found around 3 p.m. Friday about a mile and a half from where he went in the water at the intersection of Highway 49 and Route J in Reynolds County on Wednesday, according to Reynolds County Sheriff Tom Volner.

His cause of death is undetermined.

About 300 people turned out Friday to search for Gutches.

Police received a 911 call early Wednesday morning.

The caller reported a car accident, saying there was a truck in the Black River.

When officials arrived, there was no sign of anyone in the truck.

Police say it appears Gutches tried to drive to cross the low water bridge and was swept away in the water.

Search crews had difficulty getting a boat in the water due to low water levels.

Crews used dogs, helicopters, four-wheeler and searching by foot.

The Reynolds County Sheriff's Department, Water Division of Missouri State Highway Patrol, and local fire departments and volunteers also searched for Gutches.
