Southeastern Illinois College wins runner-up at clay target championships

HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) -

It was a big win for Southeastern Illinois College's nationally ranked shotgun team during the 2015 Scholastic Clay Target Program's National College Team Championships.

The event was held at Cardinal Shooting Center and Black Wing Shooting Centers in Marengo, Ohio on October 30-November 1.

The team, coached by Bruce Hering, won the SCTP Collegiate Division III Runner Up National Championship in High Overall Average.

More than 200 college athletes representing 18 teams from 13 states competed in the tournaments three different divisions.

"The team performed well given the weather, which was rather taxing the first and second day. Wind was a real factor," said Hering. "I'm quite prod of how we did."

In the Division II team events, SIC won silver in Sporting Clays, a silver in 5-stand, a bronze in Skeet and a bronze in Trap.

In celebration, a cake reception will be held in the SIC Shotgun Team's honor on December 2 at 12:30 p.m. in the Harry L. Crisp Conference Center Cafeteria at SIC's Harrisburg, Ill. campus.

The community is welcome to attend.
