Oran students volunteer at Salvation Army

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Some Oran Junior High students learned first-hand about the importance of public service on Wednesday.

About a dozen students from Guardian Angel Catholic School donated their time at the Cape Girardeau Salvation Army.

The students prepared and served the lunch with the help of Salvation Army volunteers.

Principal Katrina Strobel-Kluesner says it's a good opportunity to learn a lesson that isn't in a textbook.

"We are very fortunate many of us are, and blessed and I think the main lesson they need to learn is giving back to others you get a lot more in return," says Strobel-Kluesner.

She also says this is just one of many projects that students have undertaken.

For example, last month, students made care packages to take to Ronald McDonald House in St. Louis.
