MO Muslims defend Islamic religion

Muslims are making their voices heard following the attacks in Paris.

They say they want to show the world that their religion doesn't make them a terrorist.

Members of the Muslim community say they are facing backlash from people associating them with ISIS; and one Heartland group said they are having to defend their religion.

Some members of the Islamic Center in Cape Girardeau say they've felt this way before 14 years ago following the 9/11 attacks.

When it was determined that ISIS was behind the attacks in Paris, Muslims were quick to point out that such acts of violence are not representative of Islam.

Hafez Amir is one of almost 200 members and said he's frustrated with ISIS for hijacking his religion. He said any ISIS member who claims to be of the Islamic faith is a liar.

As a Muslim, Amir said he practices peace and love not violence.

After ISIS claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks, many Muslims around the world launched a campaign to protest the violence.

The #NotInMyName hashtag and several others defending Islam have been used on twitter more than 100,000 times.
