Deer hunters see record setting opening weekend

MISSOURI (KFVS) -

Hunters harvested  97,171 deer during opening weekend of the November fall firearms deer season in Missouri.

According to the the Missouri Department of Conservation, 5,700 more deer were killed during the 2015 opening weekend compared to 2014.

Over the course of Nov. 14 and 15, hunters harvested 53,359 antlered bucks, 10,320 button bucks, and 33,492 does.

Hunters in Texas County, Howell County and Franklin County harvested the most deer.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, deer hunting is an important economic driver in the state and gives a $1 billion annual boost to the state and local economies.

The November portion of the fall firearms deer season continues through Nov. 24.
