KSP: Watch out for Deer

KENTUCKY (KFVS) -

Kentucky State Police is urging motorists to be extra careful about deer.

Deer numbers are increased due to mating season and hunting season.

Nationally, nearly 2 million vehicle collisions with deer occur each year, with about 150 of those ending in deaths.

That's over $3 billion in damage.

How can you avoid a collision?

Be extra careful on the road at night or in the morning, as that is when deer are the most active.

Drive slowly and use your headlights.

Also, when you see a deer, don't swerve. Just break as smoothly and quickly as you are able.

Always remember to wear your safety belt.
