PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Multiple children were injured in Perry County, Mo. on Friday when the school bus they were in turned on its side, causing authorities to close down Highway B.

The highway has since reopened.

Perry County Sheriff Gary Shaaf said the crash happened around 3:25 p.m. about a mile south of Shakertown near the intersection of Highways K and B.

Officials say there were a total of 25 kids on board, with a few suffering minor injuries.

The bus was the only vehicle involved.

No serious injuries were reported, although the bus driver and eight students were taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital to be checked for minor injures.

All other children who were on the bus at the time of the crash were brought back to the District to be checked by PHS Nurse Yvonne Spears.

All district administrators were on the scene or at the triage area at the board office, along with many teacher and support staff.

“We’re all very, very grateful that our students and driver were not seriously injured,” said Superintendent Scott Ireland.

“I’m very proud of our students and driver for following the bus evacuation procedures we have practiced on campus. Our older students helped our injured driver and all other students out the back door, and to a safe place along the road. Those young people are real heroes today.”

By 5 p.m. all students had been reunited with their parents.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
