CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

After having their initial attempt stymied by technical glitches and scheduling problems, the Astra After-School program, hosted by the First United Methodist Church of Carterville, will connect via the internet with the world-renowned Jet Propulsion Laboratory which oversees much of America's deep space exploration program, and which was featured prominently in the movie The Martian.

The Astra-Nauts, who participate in the space and science themed after school program for students of the Carterville Intermediate School, will hear from a scientist who is working on the Dawn space probe, which is currently orbiting the mysterious dwarf planet Ceres, between Mars and Jupiter.

The students will talk with the scientist from 4:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

The probe is the first to explore two alien worlds, having already orbited and analyzed a huge asteroid named Vesta.

Ceres has captured attention because of strange, glowing areas on its surface, along with a huge pyramid shaped mountain.
