CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Two people are behind bars after leading Cape Girardeau police officers on a chase through a neighborhood.

According to police, a vehicle was reported stolen Thursday morning from a home on Boxwood. An officer on patrol spotted the vehicle later that night and tried to perform a traffic stop.

The driver took off and led the officer on a chase. The maximum speed during the chase was about 40 miles an hour.

It ended at the home where the vehicle was reported stolen earlier in the day.

When the vehicle stopped, police said a passenger jumped out and ran. Officers caught up with that person after a short foot chase.

The driver has been identified as 18-year-old Chelsea Davis of Cape Girardeau. She has been charged with two felonies: tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting or interfering with an arrest. Her bond has been set at $5,000.

The passenger, 26-year old George Jones III of Portageville, is charged with resisting a lawful stop. His bond is set at $2,500.
