Public meeting Nov. 19 on Honeywell

METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will be in Metropolis, Illinois on November 19 for a public meeting.

At the meeting, the NRC will discuss the agency's inspection findings in connection with an August event at the Honeywell uranium conversion plant in Metropolis.

On August 1, the facility experienced a uranium hexaflouride leak during maintenance and declared an Alert, the lower of the NRC's two emergency classification levels for fuel facilities.

After that, the NRC launched an investigation and will share its findings at the public meeting.

No one was injured and the NRC inspection confirmed that no members of the public were exposed to the material.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Community Center at 900 West 10th Street in Metropolis.

After talking about the inspection, NRC staff will answer questions.
