Flags in KY to fly at half-staff to honor paramedic

KENTUCKY (KFVS) -

Flags at all state office buildings in Kentucky will fly at half-staff on Friday, Nov. 13 in honor of a paramedic killed in the line of duty.

40-year-old John Everett Mackey died Nov. 9 after being hit by a moving vehicle while he was on duty in Jessamine County.

Mackey served his community for 16 years with Jessamine County EMS.

He is survived by his wife, Janine, his son, James, and daughters Morgan and Brianna.

Mackey will be laid to rest on Friday in Nicholasville, Ky.

Governor Steve Beshear encourages residents, businesses, organizations, and government agencies to join in the flag lowering tribute.
