CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Executive Director of the Carbondale Park District Kathy Renfro is calling on the community for help in completing a project.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will reimburse the Carbondale park district for at least $2.2 million to complete a city water park.

The community is invited to attend a meeting Tuesday, November 16 at the Carbondale Civic Center to discuss how to fund and complete the water park project.

“I believe that our community is behind us 100 percent,” Renfro said. “We’re in way too far to turn back.”

Construction on The Super Splash Park was halted on March 11 when Ill. Governor Bruce Rauner suspended the grant critical to completing the park.

Renfro said she received an October 5 letter announcing that IDNR would reimburse the park district for work done on the water park through March 9, 2015.

Renfro said contractors estimate the project to be just 70 days away from completion and would like to begin as soon as possible. If the funding issue can be resolved soon, Renfro said the park could open by May 2016.
