Carbondale Park District plans to announce "good news" regarding Splash Park

Work may soon continue on Carbondale’s idled Super Splash Park construction project.

The Carbondale Park District plans to hold a press conference at noon Thursday, November 12 to announce what representatives call “good news” in terms of funding.

The Super Splash Park was put on hold on March 11 when Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner suspended a $2.5 million dollar grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The grant was critical to completing work on the water park.

Work was halted just 73 days before the park’s scheduled grand opening.

“I was in shock," Executive Director for the Carbondale Park District, Kathy Renfro said.

The Carbondale Super Splash Park has been an idea in the works for the past 10 years and was slated to open to swimmers in May 2015.
