Police chase spans 3 Heartland counties; ends in crash

PULASKI COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A suspect is in custody after an incident in Mounds, Ill. resulted in a police chase.

Illinois State Police say the suspect is a 35-year-old male. 

According to the Mounds Police Department, officers were dispatched to an area in Mounds around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, which resulted in a pursuit of the suspect.

Authorities could not release any information about what happened in Mounds.

Police report the suspect was headed northbound on Interstate 57 when the suspect wrecked their car.

According to the Mounds Police Department, the suspect took the Cairo exit, ran off the road and hit a tree.

ISP report the suspect was injured in the crash and had to be extracted from the truck.

Police say the chase started in Pulaski County, Ill., at some point went into Missouri, and ended in Alexander County, Ill.

Illinois State Police is handling the official investigation.

The Cairo Police Department and the Cairo Fire Department were also on scene.

The Pulaski County States Attorney and the mayor of Mounds arrived where the situation ended to make sure Mounds police officers were okay.

The incident wrapped up around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
