Crews replacing utility pole on Saint Louis St. in West Frankfort after crash

WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) -

Crews are replacing a utility pole on Saint Louis Street in West Frankfort, Illinois after it was knocked down in a crash on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 1:08 p.m.

According to Illinois State Police, a preliminary investigation showed that Michael L. Caraballo, 22, of Winter, Wis., was driving a 2013 Volvo with a 5-axle combination and box trailer northbound on Illinois Route 37. They say he was trying to turn onto eastbound Saint Louis Street.

Police say Caraballo did not properly judge the distance to the utility pole on the corner of the intersection and hit it with the rear, passenger side of his trailer.

The pole broke, bringing down Ameren power lines onto the road.

Illinois Route 37 was closed for about two hours while power crews cleared the scene. However, Saint Louis Street is still closed while workers replace the utility pole.

Caraballo was cited for improper turn. He was uninjured.
