Is it too early for Christmas shopping?

(KFVS) -

Black Friday used to mark the start of the holiday shopping season, but every year it seems to be getting earlier and earlier.

This year some stores are trying to get a jump on the competition opening as early as 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

“The whole thing has got out of sort in my opinion,” said George Kirk.

The early bird debate is on. Should retailers deck the aisles with Christmas deals weeks before Thanksgiving?

“If they stay open late that’s good for me, I can stop by on my way home,” said Connie Adams.

Follow the tinsel and you’re confronted by row upon row of Christmas lights, poinsettias even Santa Clause with Christmas music filling the store.

It’s a scene that warms many hearts in December, but the second week of November?

“It’s not about gifts, that’s not what it is about,” said Kirk.

But many stop to browse and buy.

Some say it’s less stressful to start early and there are more bargains at this time of year.

“I will be able to drop him at school at eight then just go while I am already out and get done and get home and then I can bake and have all of the parts of the holiday fun,” said Cindy Adams.

According to a recent survey from CreditCards.com, an estimated 32 million Americans started their Christmas shopping by the second week of September.

Black Friday deals are starting earlier too.

This Thanksgiving, JC Penny opens up at 3 p.m.

Two hours later, Best Buy and Toys R Us open at 5 p.m.

Kohls, Sears, Macys, and Target plan to open their doors at 6 p.m.

So, while the turkey might still be frozen, in the retail world its Christmas and people are buying it.

“We go out in the crowds, yes, it’s a blast,” said Adams.
