The Anna Fire and Rescue Department is using social media to introduce members of its crew to the community.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, the department released a profile of Justin Goodman on their Facebook page.

The post says Goodman has been with the department for seven months.

He joined the fire service because he wanted to work in the emergency field and loves helping people.

He said his best on-the-job moment was teaching fire prevention, but he loves just knowing the work he does makes a difference in people's lives.

Goodman said the one thing most people don't know about the job is the toll it can have on someone, both physically and mentally.

His favorite quote is "The best thing an old firefighter can teach a young firefighter, is how to be an old firefighter."

Goodman enjoys fishing and being outdoors.

He is currently enrolled in Rend Lake College's Basic Firefighter program, as well as being a full-time student at Shawnee Community College.

Other communities in the Heartland have started to use social media in similar ways. The Cape Girardeau Police Department recently introduced a "Meet Your Officer" community outreach program on their Facebook page.
