GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Graves County cross country runner Marcos Macias repeated as Region 1 champion this fall and then finished 17th in the Class 3A Kentucky High School Athletics Association’s state meet at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington this Saturday, Nov. 7.

Macias was upbeat afterward, noting that while he didn’t accomplish his ultimate goal, he did cut 30 seconds off his fastest run at state and said that was a great way to cap off his high school career.

Carley Dowdy, on the girls team, broke the 20-minute mark, finishing in 19:56.

Head coach Ken Harrison called it “an amazing year from beginning to end.”

He said the team reached its three goals set at the start of the season: for both boys and girls teams to qualify for state competition and for Macias to repeat as regional champion.
