PULASKI COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Meridian Elementary and Jr. High School is currently undergoing construction.

The school is adding a new addition to replace a building that was condemned more than two years ago due to the presence of toxic mold.

When completed the project will add more than a dozen new classrooms, offices and a new gymnasium.

"The addition is exciting," said Spencer Byrd, Superintendent of the Meridian School District. "It brings our facilities to the same level or higher to those schools around us.

"We thank Baysinger Architects for its design and service which is making this construction possible."

It is hoped the $7 million project will start a regeneration of the school district.

The project is expected to be finished in time for the 2016-2017 school year.
