An Illinois woman has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident Saturday night in Franklin County, Illinois.

Officials say William Burnett, 31, of Buckner, Ill., was traveling westbound on Route 14 near Urbain Road on a motorcycle with a female passenger.

A deer reportedly ran onto the roadway in the path of his motorcycle.

Burnett was unable to avoid the deer, striking it.

The passenger, Jana Miles, 40 of Whittington, Ill. was thrown off of the motorcycle during the collision.

She was transported to Franklin County hospital were she died from her injuries.

Burnett was also transported there, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Route 14 was closed for approximately 4 hours during the traffic crash investigation and re-opened around 11 p.m.

Miles and her new husband, William Burnett, had just gotten married and were traveling to their reception at Ground Zero in Christopher, Ill. when the crash occurred.

Miles was a dispatcher for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

Khole Smilie,Miles' son-in-law, described Miles as a shining light.

“You could be having the ultimate worst day ever and she would turn it around," Smilie said. “She could turn it around and make you laugh or smile."

Smilie said she took her job as a dispatcher seriously, but still made time to have fun.

“She’s looked over the entire sheriff’s department," he said. “That combined with the laughing and giggling over time.”

Miles had only met Burnett two months before they were married Saturday, but Smilie said they were crazy about each other.

“She was stuck to him like glue," he said.

Funeral services for Miles will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory in Benton, Ill.

Burial will take place in the Phillips Cemetery.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
