Clothes, food, haircuts for homeless veterans in Carbondale

At least one hundred people came out to Carbondale Saturday afternoon to volunteer and donate to U.S. Military veterans in need.

The event was geared toward homeless veterans, and had healthcare and social service advisers on-site.

Veterans had access to everything from free canned goods to a fresh haircut.

Several churches and businesses from the Carbondale area contributed, all of whom attracted several thousand dollars’ worth of donations.

“Raise awareness that our veterans are in need, because so many of them are in need.” Said organizer Melinda Purcell,  “We just want to show our support that we’re here for them, and behind them to help supply their needs.”

Those in attendance heard from men who fought in WWII and the Korean War, as well as U.S. Congressman Mike Bost.
