SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is searching for a California man considered armed and dangerous in connection with a weekend shooting.

Martryl Woods, 23, faces four felony counts.

Authorities say Woods shot 27-year-old Raymond Mitchell twice in his torso during some kind of fight Nov. 7 at a house in the 400 Block of South New Madrid Street in Sikeston.

Court records indicate Mitchell made it to his sister's house, where he told her he did not know the identity of the man who shot him.

Authorities say a woman at the home where the shooting happened identified the shooter as "Cam" from California.

Mitchell was flown to an area hospital for his injuries. He underwent surgery and is expected to survive.

The SEMO Major Case Squad was activated and police soon learned that the incident took place at 409 S. New Madrid in Sikeston.

The Scott County Prosecuting Attorney charged Woods Tuesday with assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Sikeston DPS Chief Drew Juden says Woods is also considered a fugitive in his home state of California.

Authorities in Fresno say he faces numerous felony and misdemeanor warrants issued for his arrest in April. Those warrants are attached to cases from the Fresno Police Department.

In March 2014, Woods was charged with nine felony counts of reckless driving for allegedly plowing into a Suburban carrying nine children on their way home from school after he was reportedly clocked speeding in a school zone. Woods did not have a valid license and was also charged with a misdemeanor.

Investigators have not located the weapon involved and law enforcement stresses Woods should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on Woods is encouraged to contact the Sikeston Police Department at (573)-471-4711. All tips will remain anonymous.
