Centerstone receives $1.36 million grant

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KFVS) -

Centerstone has received a $1.36 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration to create Training to Work, a program that will help Illinois adults returning from incarceration to re-enter the workplace and their communities.

The new program will assist 170 adults, with an emphasis on veterans, in Jackson and Franklin Counties, which have poverty, crime, and recidivism rates at or above the national average.

The program will focus on individuals who have been convicted under federal or state law for charges other than sexual offenses.

It will included case management, mentoring, education and training that leads to credentials in demand occupations, job placement, and follow-up services to guide participants back into society.

The program will launch on January 1st, 2016.
