Crews respond to Cape Girardeau apartment fire on Thursday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Officials in Cape Girardeau responded to a structure fire at an apartment early Thursday morning.

Fire crews were called to 3011 Themis for a report of a smoke detector going off in Apartment B at around 2:10 a.m.

Officials say 5 engines,1 ladder truck and a battalion chief were sent to respond.

The first unit arrived and announced nothing showing from the exterior.

After gaining access to the building, officials say they found smoke coming from underneath the door of Apartment B.

They were able to enter the apartment and found a small fire in the master bedroom's bathroom.

They extinguished the fire while the other units evacuated the other three apartments, and made sure there was no other fire extension.

The smoke was removed from the structure.

A smoke detector in the apartment alerted the neighbors to the fire in that apartment.

All occupants were able to return to their apartments, and no one was displaced.

There were no civilian injuries or firefighter injuries.
