CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Mark your calendars for August 21, 2017 - the first total solar eclipse over the mainland United States in nearly 40 years is happening.
In advance of that, eleven third-year architecture students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will present conceptual designs for an astronomy observatory next week.
The presentations will take place on Monday, November 9 from 1:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the gallery space on the first floor of Quigley Hall.
The Architecture 351 class is working with the Department of Physics to create the designs.
SIU is the closest campus to the point of the eclipse's greatest duration.
There will be another total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
