CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The City of Carbondale held its first Police and Community Together event on Oct. 30.

The event took place at Attucks Park in Carbondale from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Numerous agencies in Jackson County participated in the event, including the Carbondale Police and Fire Departments, the Jackson County State’s Attorney and Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson County Ambulance Service and the Carbondale Park District.

More than 250 children attended.

The event included trick or treating at a homemade cardboard town, face painting, games, a hay ride, a costume contest and free food and drinks.

McGruff the Crime Dog was also on hand to entertain the children.

The Carbondale Police Department said the event is important for the community not only because it provides a safe environment for children to enjoy Halloween activities, but also because it allows the community to interact with members of the public safety agencies who serve throughout Carbondale and Jackson County.
