2 injured in fog-related semi crash on I-57 in Williamson Co.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Police say a crash on Interstate 57 early Tuesday morning is fog related.

The rollover crash happened around 5:15 a.m. as a semi tried to the exit Interstate 24 onto northbound I-57 in Williamson County.

Timothy C. Mattert, 52, of Paducah was driving and Jon M. Koenig, 49, of Paducah was a passenger in the semi. Both were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators say the truck veered outside the curve of the ramp, and the driver over-corrected causing the semi to roll over onto its side.

There was a dense fog warning in place at the time of the crash, and visibility for the semi driver was less than 75 feet.

The driver and passenger received minor injuries, and are being treated at a nearby hospital.

Mattert was charged with improper lane usage and driving too fast for conditions.

State Police say as the fog lingers in the Heartland, drivers should use extra caution, and allow for extra time to get to their destination.
