CERT training offered for Williamson and Franklin Counties

Here's your chance to help your community out in a time of need.

Williamson and Franklin County Emergency Management Agencies are holding a training course for anyone who wants to become a member of the Community Emergency Response Team.

The training is free for residents of the two counties.

It starts on January 14, 2016 at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

The training is held one night a week for eight weeks at the Williamson County Administration Building located at 407 N. Monroe Street in Marion.

All equipment and training materials are provided at no cost to participants.

The program teaches residents about disaster preparedness and trains them in skills like fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations.

CERT is a "realistic" approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens will initially be on their own and their actions can make a difference.

For more information on joining the CERT program, or to sign up for the class, call 618-998-2123 or 618-439-4362. Please leave your name, address, and contact number. The class is limited to 25 people. You must be 18 years or older to participate.
