In custody: A suspect was arrested after a deadly shooting in Wardell, Mo. The Pemiscott County Sheriff says authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide.
Deadly ending: A fugitive accused of shooting a Tennessee police officer and firing at a Kentucky trooper was killed in a shootout with authorities early Friday. The incident ends a nearly weeklong manhunt for Floyd Ray Cook.
Under investigation: The Illinois Department of Corrections' Pinckneyville facility is on a level 4 lockdown. Authorities are investigating an altercation involving seven inmates inside of the dining room.
One to go: Early Friday morning, Congress sent President Barack Obama an ambitious budget and debt measure that averts a catastrophic national default and sets spending priorities for the next two years. The Senate voted 64-35 to approve the bill just after 3 a.m. EDT.
