Wardell man charged with murder in neighbor's shooting death

WARDELL, MO (KFVS) -

A Wardell man is charged with first degree murder in the death of his neighbor.

Paul Wayne Rudd, 51, of Wardell is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action.

Sheriff Tommy Greenwell says Russell E. Gray, Jr, 46, of Wardell, was shot and killed at a home in the 200 block of Back Street at around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Greenwell says police have made an arrest in the shooting, and will release the suspect's name as soon as charges are filed by the Pemiscot County Prosecutor on Friday.

Gray's mother says she is devastated by her son's death. She said she heard Gray call her name and when she went outside, she say that he had been shot.

Rudd is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail with no bond.

His arraignment was held on Monday, Nov. 2 in Pemiscot County where he was appointed public council.

Rudd will be back in court for a case review on Nov. 12.

The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office, Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime control, and Wardell Police are investigating.
