Graves Co. schools' chess program presents 3rd annual tournament

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

The Graves County Schools chess program on Saturday, Oct. 24, presented its third annual Fall Scholastic Chess Tournament.

The 2015 event drew entries from all over the region, including Graves County High School, Graves County Middle School, Wingo Elementary, Symsonia Elementary, Lowes Elementary, McCracken County’s new team from Lone Oak Intermediate, Murray Independent Schools and Livingston County.

Several new players competed and the entire event was hosted by Lowes Elementary.

Graves County High School took first place in the K-12 team section.K-12 section individuals are 1st place Samuel Lewis, Murray High School; 2nd place Matt Carroll, GCHS; 3rd place Justin Wallace, GCHS; 4th place Bristal Watkins, GCHS.

Graves County Middle School took 1st place in the K-8 section.

K-8 section individuals are 1st place Aiden Wallace, GCMS; 2nd place Michael Black, GCMS.

Lone Oak Intermediate School took 1st place, Wingo 2nd place, Lowes 3rd place, and Symsonia 4th place in the K-5 team section.  K-5 section individuals are 1st place Owen Cody, LOIS; 2nd place Robert Jackson, Livingston; 3rd place Sarah Irvin, Lowes and 4th place Emma Berry, Wingo.

Wingo took 1st place in the K-3 team section.  K-3 section individuals are 1st place Eyon Bounds, Wingo; 2nd place Thomas Jackson, Livingston County; 3rd place AJ Gass, Murray Elementary and 4th place Elizabeth Berry, Wingo.

This event was directed by Kentucky Chess Association’s Quad A Coordinator, Tom Knight, assisted by Graves County alum, Mariah Day.
