WKAS announces sign-up for energy assistance program

KENTUCKY (KFVS) -

You can begin applying for the subsidy component of the Low-Income House Energy Assistance Program Nov. 4 through Dec. 11.

The subsidy benefit amount that a household receives will be based on its level of poverty and the type of fuel used for heating. Applications will be taken according to the letter your last name begins with alphabetically.

It includes:

  • A - Nov. 4
  • B - Nov. 5
  • B - Nov. 6
  • C - Nov. 9
  • C - Nov. 10
  • D, E - Nov. 12
  • F - Nov. 13
  • G - Nov. 16
  • H - Nov. 17
  • H - Nov. 18
  • I, J - Nov. 19
  • K - Nov. 20
  • L - Nov. 23
  • M - Nov. 24
  • M - Nov. 30
  • N. - Dec. 1
  • O, P - Dec. 2
  • Q, R - Dec. 3
  • S - Dec. 4
  • S - Dec. 7
  • T - Dec. 8
  • U, V, W - Dec. 9
  • X, Y, Z - Dec. 10
  • Open - Dec. 11

You must apply at your local WKAS office in your area.

You must have the following items with you at the time of application:

  • Most recent heating bill or rent receipt if you live in public housing
  • Proof of social security number or permanent resident card (Green Card) for each member in the household
  • Proof on income for every member that had income for the prior month to application. Some may have to complete a zero income form. If the income is social security, SSI, VA, Railroad or pensions, etc. you must have an award letter. This year bank statements cannot be used for verification of income
  • Clients must be responsible for their own heating costs or pay heating costs as an undesignated portion of their rent
  • Clients must not have in excess of $2,000 in liquid resources; such as money in a checking account, savings, CD's, stocks, bonds, etc, or $3,000 if at least one person in the household is age 60 or older: and/or disabled except for households where a member has a catastrophic illness, the amount may be $4,000 when the resources are being accessed for medical and living expenses.
