WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Officers in Williamson County are trying to make Halloween a little brighter this year.
The Williamson County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #197 wanted to do something for Halloween safety.
They bought reflective Halloween trick-or-treat bags, as well as glow sticks, teaming up with police departments in Marion, Herrin, Carterville, Johnston City and the Williamson County Sheriff's Department, hoping to increase visibility with the kids.
"We have a lot of kids would go as ghosts and goblins, and dress in dark clothing and things like that and they need to be seen. So if they have the reflective bag, that's a little bit more to catch the driver's eye or the person's eye as they're going down the road," President of the Williamson County Fraternial Order of Police Lodge #196, Karl Gusentine said.
For extra safety tips, officers encourage staying in groups, not to walk inside anyone's house and for parents to check the candy when the kids are finished trick-or-treating.
Families can pick up the trick or treat bags at the police departments in Marion, Herrin, Carterville, Johnston City or the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.
