CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A man known for playing the role of Santa Claus in Cape Girardeau and facing child sexual abuse charges is going to be tried in another county.

A judge has granted 56-year-old Jeffrey Moffat a change of venue. He will be tried in New Madrid County instead of Cape Girardeau County where he is jailed.

Moffat pleaded not guilty to a charge of first degree statutory sodomy.

He is accused of molesting a girl, 6 years old at the time, in August 2014 at a Cape Girardeau County home.

Many recognize Moffat as portraying Santa Claus for years for the Iron Mountain Railway.
