MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah, Kentucky woman has been arrested in connection with a McCracken County theft.
Ashlee R. McMillan, 29, was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card under $500 within six months, theft by unlawful taking under $500, tampering with physical evidence and receiving stolen property over $500.
According to McCracken County sheriff's deputies, on Oct. 22, several pieces of jewelry, a credit card and currency were reported missing from a home in the 5200 block of Hendron Road.
Deputies say the victim's roommate, McMillan, became a person of interest.
They say McMillan allegedly sold the stolen jewelry at a local gold buyer's facility.
Deputies talked to McMillan, who agreed to go to the sheriff's department for an interview. While on the way there, deputies say she pulled into a gas station on Lone Oak Road, claiming to need fuel.
While pumping her gas, deputies say they saw her throwing away two cigarette packs into a trash can.
After McMillan pulled away, deputies say a check of the trash can turned up the two cigarette packs. Inside one of the packs, deputies allegedly found the stolen credit card.
During the interview, detectives say McMillan first denied selling the jewelry, touching her roommate's credit card or knowing anything about it.
Later, after being confronted with evidence, she allegedly admitted to stealing the credit card out of her roommate's purse, withdrawing money from the ATM without her consent, throwing the card away in hopes that detectives wouldn't find it and allegedly admitting to taking the victim's jewelry and selling it.
McMillan was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
