Jackson, MO

Jackson Dental is offering free services for veterans on Wed. Nov. 11. The services include cleanings, exams and x-rays. This offer applies to all veterans. There are a limited number if spots open so call immediately to make sure there are times available. The selected veterans will be notified by phone by Nov. 11.

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce announced a Salute to Veterans at their Business after Hours on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It will be located at Jackson Bank Branch, 727 West Main St.

The Jackson Senior High School will host an assembly honoring veterans at the high school auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The program will begin at 9:15 a.m. and a reception will immediately follow in the Band Room. Parking is available on Oklahoma Street in the parking lot. Assistance will be available for those in need or call 573-243-9501 with questions.

City offices in Jackson will be closed on Wed. Nov. 11. A Veterans Day Parade will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The American Legion Post 158 says there will be a float reserved for any veteran interested in riding in the parade. All individuals and groups wishing to march in the parade should meet in front of Jackson High School at 3:30 p.m. There will be a program at 5 p.m. at New McKendree United Methodist Church on South High Street. The featured speaker will be Captain Ron Lessman, retired U.S. Navy. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served 21 years with the active Navy and the Naval Reserves. There will be a meal provided by the ladies on New McKendree immediately following the presentation. All veterans, their families and the general public are invited to attend. Bloomfield, MO

The Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield will hold its annual Veterans Day Program on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The program is set for 1 p.m. at the Committal Shelter Plaza in the cemetery.

Robert Wayne Fortenberry will be the keynote speaker for the event. 

Fortenberry is a U.S. Navy veteran from the Vietnam era.

The cemetery is the final resting place for more than 2400 veterans and include veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian and Gulf wars.

New Hamburg, MO

Kelso C-7 school in New Hamburg is holding a special Veteran's Day lunch on Nov. 11. Veterans and a guest are invited for a free lunch at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Lawrence Parish Center. Veterans are asked to pre-register by calling the school at 573-545-3357 by Monday, Nov. 9.

Poplar Bluff, MO

All local veterans are invited to attend a Veterans Day Celebration at Three Rivers College at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

There will be a Veterans Resource Fair in the Bess Activity Center, from 1-4 p.m. after the ceremony. 

Terrie Hobson, St. Louis Chapter President of the Missouri Department of American Gold Star Mothers Inc., will headline the celebration. The organization, which was established in 1928, helps support mothers who have lost a son or daughter in service of our country. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1056 is a co-sponsor of the celebration.

Representatives from the Veterans Administration, Three Rivers College, and a variety of business and community organizations will offer information about services available to veterans, including employment, education, health, transportation, and social services at the Veterans Resource Fair.

Three Rivers College has been named a Military Friendly School for three years in a row. The college employs an advisor to help student veterans navigate and maximize their benefits. Three Rivers now offers in-district tuition rates to all student veterans and their families.

Sikeston, MO

The Veterans Day service in Sikeston will be on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 9:15 a.m. It will start at the Sikeston Field House. The honored guest and speaker will be Lt. Col. Mike Johnson, United States Marine Corps. and a native of New Madrid. He is also a highly-decorated combat aviator of the Iraq/Afghan War. Johnson is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.

Oran, MO

Oran Elementary School will be hosting its annual Veterans Day Assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. The event will include a memorabilia display and will have guest speakers, including Clarence W. Suedekum. Students will also address the assembly, reading letters they have written to veterans. There will be other presentations and speeches, as wll.

Carbondale, IL

Southern Illinois University and VFW Post 2605 will host a joint Veteran's Day ceremony on Wed. Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Carbondale. The Veterans Memorial Plaza is at the intersection of East Main and South Washington streets. The event begins at 11 a.m. and is open to the public. In the event of rain, the ceremony will move across the street  to the City Pavilion. The ceremony will honor veterans of all American and foreign wars, conflicts and military operations. The university will be closed that day.

Paducah, KY

All of the events below to honor veterans will be held on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11. 

  • Veterans Day Parade Opening Ceremony: The Paducah Parks Services Department and the Veterans Day Planning Committee invite the public to attend the Veterans Day Parade Opening Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Korean War Monument located on the 6th Street side of Dolly McNutt Memorial Plaza.  Before the ceremony from 10:15 until 10:30 enjoy the playing of bagpipes by James Cruickshank.  The opening ceremony includes the recognition of the 2015 Distinguished Veteran who will serve as the parade’s grand marshal. The ceremony also includes the naming of the non-veteran who will receive the 2015 Patriot Award, an award honoring a citizen who dedicates his or her time to serving veterans and veteran causes in this community. The winners of the Veterans Day Essay contest organized by the Daughters of the American Revolution will be recognized.  Students from Concord Elementary School will sing during the opening ceremony.  Plus, everyone can enjoy coffee and donuts donated by Dan/Righteous Roast Coffee and Red's Donut Shop.
  • Veterans Day Parade: The annual Paducah Veterans Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at 6th and Washington Streets. It will travel along 6th Street until it turns left on Broadway. It will disband at Broadway and 17th Street. The WKCTC Television Production Department will record the parade (weather-permitting), set it to music, and televise it at a later time on Government 11 and Paducah-2 (for Comcast subscribers).
  • Veterans Day Ceremony at McCracken County Courthouse: The 2015 Veterans Day Ceremony at the McCracken County Courthouse will be held at the Veterans Monument at 2 p.m.  The monument is on the Washington Street side of the Courthouse.
  • Veterans Day Concert: The Veterans Day Concert will be held at the Robert Cherry Civic Center located at 2701 Park Avenue at 7 p.m.  The Paducah Community Band under the direction of Douglas Van Fleet will provide a musical tribute to our local veterans and current service members.  The concert is open to the public at no charge.
