CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

"Time Machine Family Night" was held on Tuesday, October 20 at Warren E. Hearnes Elementary School for grades Pre-K to 5th.

The time travel theme took over 150 participants on a trip through history, social studies and reading.

Among the activities were a relay race and several mini-games held throughout the school building. Giant bowling, a trivia challenge game, a coloring station and a board games station were available. A display of old cameras throughout the last 100 years was also available for viewing.

Groups who joined the event included Hearnes PTO, University of Missouri Extension and Charleston Fire Department.

The Hearnes PTO held a membership drive to gain support for future activities.

Richard DeLoughery of University of Missouri Extension held a creative presentation on the timeline of soil.

Officer Brenda Bickford represented Charleston Fire Department with the history of fire trucks and a display of equipment.

Reading and technology teachers shared information about the school's reading programs, including Study Island and Accelerated Reader (A.R.).

The purpose of this event was to promote reading and socials studies, as well as to be a place for families to have a fun, safe and positive time with each other and with the school.

Pizza and refreshments were served, including lemonade provided by OPAA! Food Services, and door prizes were given. The school would like to thank Summer Babb, Mississippi County Savings and Loan and Mississippi County Library for contributing to the event.

The event was a product of Title 1 Parent Involvement, organized by Mr. B.J. Babb, Parent Liaison.
