CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A Mississippi County inmate is facing a felony charge this week after an investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began on Wednesday evening when a corrections officer told jail officials that a commissary order had been delivered to the wrong inmate.

The next morning, an investigation revealed inmate Cortez Evans, 55, of Charleston, Mo., had given a false name in order to receive another inmate’s commissary items, and then forged the other man’s signature on a receipt.

At the time of the offense, Evans was jailed for non-support and misdemeanor receiving stolen property.

Evans is now charged with forgery.

He remains jailed with bond set at $5,000.
